Men, we need each other.

Many men aren’t broken. They’re simply drifting.

Life can become a cycle of work, responsibilities, family, bills and trying to keep everything together. Somewhere along the way, genuine male friendship can become one of the first things we sacrifice.

We can be surrounded by people, our wives, family, colleagues, neighbours and friends, and still feel alone.

The real question is, if life fell apart tomorrow, how many men could you call who would actually show up?

True friendship is more than having someone to watch sport with, share a beer with, chat to at work or exchange messages with. Those things have their place, but every man needs a few people with whom he can be completely honest.

Men who will sit with you when life is difficult.
Men who will ask the questions you don’t want to answer.
Men who will tell you the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Men who will pray with you when you don’t know what else to do.
Men who will celebrate your victories without jealousy.
Men who will stand beside you when you are struggling.

Biblical brotherhood is about doing life together.

It means making time for one another, opening Scripture, praying honestly, encouraging one another and, when necessary, challenging one another with truth and love.

We also need men from different generations.
Older men have wisdom to share.
Younger men bring energy and perspective.
Our peers understand the pressures we face.
And every man has something to give and something to learn.
The truth is, none of us is strong all the time.

We may spend much of our lives being the one others depend on, the husband, father, provider, leader, fixer or strong one. But eventually, every man reaches a point where he needs someone else to encourage and lift him up for a season.

There is no shame in that.
So let’s build better friendships.

Start with a few good men.
Make time to meet.
Put the phones away.
Talk honestly.
Pray together.
Open the Bible.
Ask the difficult questions.
Be there when it matters.
And keep showing up, even when life gets busy.

You don’t need a crowd.
You need a few men who know you, care about you, tell you the truth and will stand beside you when life gets tough.

Your story is still being written.

And perhaps the next chapter is not about doing more on your own, but about walking it with the right men beside you.
